Brighton Artists Open Houses

By May 19, 2016October 30th, 2017Blog, Inspiration, Jessica Zoob's Latest News

Each weekend in May, artists in the Brighton, Hove and surrounding areas open their homes and studios to show and sell their artistic creations; from paintings and sculpture to jewellery, ceramics and textiles. This year over sixty new Open Houses are taking part for the first time and I was one of them. I chose to open my studio for just one weekend in May and it was really exciting! You can read all about it here and on next week’s blog I will be posting a video of the weekend so watch this space!

The Brighton Artists Open Houses is an inclusive, open to all community event. It offers the opportunity to view,  buy work and meet the creators. There are 14 Open House Trails and I was part of the Newhaven and Ouse trail. As I wasn’t at my studio last weekend I took the opportunity to visit some of the artists open houses on my trail.

Number 1  – South Heighton Pottery

South Heighton Pottery

There are three brilliant artists exhibiting their paintings, sculptures, pottery and woodwork here in two galleries. The garden is beautiful.

2. The Old Forge

The Old Forge

Another wonderful building which showcases the works of the seven artists here beautifully. I am working in my new garden at the moment and it was so lovely to visit this inspiring wild garden with it’s stunning views over the downs.

There are still two weekends of artists open houses and  I’m planning a trip to Brighton to visit some more! It is such a lovely way to spend a day, meeting lovely people and being part of this fantastic event.

Do pick up a copy of the brochure from a local tourist office if you can and start exploring, there really are so many fantastic artists in Sussex!
